Instructions For Operating Your TV

Your apartment comes installed with basic cable television (if ordered). Please review the following steps to begin using your cable TV:

  1. Using the TV remote control (should have the name of the TV manufacturer on the front), press “POWER” or “ON” button
  2. Wait for 15-20 seconds for TV to turn on (some models may not take that long). Use TV remote to change to TV to channel 3.
  3. Using the cable remote control (should have the name of the cable company on the front), press “CABLE” on the top of the remote, and then press “ON” or “ALL ON” button.
  4. Put the TV remote control aside. You no longer need to use this unless the volume needs adjusting (volume can be adjusted using the cable remote as well).
  5. Use the cable remote control to change channels.
  6. If the TV does not come on, turn TV and cable box “OFF” and start at Step 1 again.

Television/Cable Troubleshooting

Please review the following steps in the event of a power outage or if you encounter a problem:

If you have a cable convertor box or a satellite receiver box:

If you have a cable box, then you should have two remote controls for the TV. One remote is from the TV manufacturer and is used to change the settings on the TV and turn the TV to channel 3 so it can receive the cable signal. The other remote is from the cable company and should have the cable company’s logo on it. This remote is used to change the channels on the cable box and control the volume on the cable box.

  1. Look for loose power cords. Make sure they are plugged in all the way
  2. If the power outlet is controlled by a light switch on the wall, make sure the switch is in the ON position
  3. Check the batteries in the remote control this way:
Turn on the TV or cable box by pressing the power button on the front panel of the equipment. Now use the remote control to turn off the TV or cable box. If it does not turn off, then change the batteries in the remote control.
  4. Make sure the DVD player is off (if applicable)
  5. Using the TV manufacturer's remote - make sure the TV is set to channel 3
  6. Using the TV manufacturer's remote – press the “menu or input” button and make sure that the input is set to “cable or HDMI”.
  7. Power cycle your cable box by pushing the “power” button on the cable box and also unplug the box from the electrical outlet. Leave the box off for a full two minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on. Wait for all of the lights on the box to stop blinking and then, using the cable remote, select the desired channel.

If you do not have a cable convertor box or a satellite receiver box:

If you do not have a cable box, then you will only have one remote control for the TV. This remote will control all of the functions of your television and well as your cable.

  1. Make sure the DVD player is off (if applicable)
  2. Using the TV remote - make sure the TV is set to channel 3
  3. Using the TV remote – press the “menu” button and make sure that the input is set to “cable or HDMI”.

Change the input if you using your television’s remote control:

  1. Locate the input/source button on your remote: Input, A/V, Source, Video, etc. (For more information regarding your TV remote please refer to your TV manufacturer.)
  2. Find out what input you need to change to. (If you are using a cable box with a coaxial connection you will need to ensure your television is set to cable or TV then set the channel to channel 3.)
  3. Click on the input/source button found on your remote.
  4. Using the arrow keys to highlight/select the input you want. (Some televisions may require pressing the source button multiple times to change the inputs.)
  5. Press the “ok/select” button on the desired input.
  6. You should now see a picture; use your cable remote change your channels.
